My First Review! "The Iron King"

I have a good friend at work who is always recommending books to me. This past week she recommended the "Iron Fey" series by Julie Kagawa. So I grabbed the first book, "The Iron King".

                                                    *****Book Summary*****

Meghan Chase is a below average teenager who even her own family seems to forget even exists. Except for her four year old half brother who, on her sixteenth birthday, is kidnapped by faeries. In order to find her brother she must go to the NeverNever, a world filled with faeries, goblins, trolls, and many other creatures. There she find out shes the daughter to a faery king, and a pawn in an ancient feud between the summer and winter courts. Now Meghan has to find her brother, avoid being captured or worse,  face a new evil that scares faery creatures everywhere and figure out her feelings for the icy prince who jumps between wanting her dead to wanting her heart.

Now don't get me wrong I loved this book, the only thing that kept my rating from being a complete five stars is that Meghan's relationship with Ash went from being cold to hot extremely quick. I felt like their connection needed a little more added in the middle for there feelings to be SO strong towards the end. But I love love so it still works for me. Julie Kagawa's writing was very easy for me to follow and her writing style was refreshing. I find with many books that are written in first person, the character tends not to be the sharpest tool in the shed which can often ruin an amazing story. But Kagawa's story through Meghan's eyes was enlightening and enjoyable. Meghan's a smart girl who puts others before herself which is what truly makes this story so great.

The character Puck is awesome. Hes the kind of guy you wish you had as a best friend. I love his humor as well as the tricks he plays on all those around him. From what I understand Puck has been a beloved character by many readers and authors. This being the first story I read with him it I must say i can see the reason why. Add him with Prince Ash and the feud they have, as well as their mutual feelings for Meghan and its nothing but pure entertainment.

Prince Ash is dark, brooding, mysterious, and handsome. You never know what hes going to do or say next. Even when he is being a class A jerk I still cant help but root for him and Meghan. I'd have to say he is my favorite character who I looked forward to reading about through out the entire book.

Meghan is a lovable character thats easy to relate to. At times she can be extremely stubborn and naive to the point you want to reach in the book, grab her by the shoulders and shake her. But she has a large heart.  Even being in a world she knows nothing about she still stays true to who she is and becomes a true heroine in the end.

The Iron King is a magical story that takes you by the hand and pulls you in. I was so ready for the second installment that i ended up buying it before i even finished the first. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stories of romance and adventure.
